SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Special Announcement - Granville Half Marathon Postponed

Due to unforeseen circumstances the Vancouver Running Festival and the Granville Half Marathon is postponed until 2018. On behalf of all the race organizers we would like to thank you for your patience and support as we’ve been working toward a resolution with the city to confirm dates and permits for next year. The James Cunningham Seawall Race will continue for it’s 47th year on October 21st, 2017.

If you registered for the Granville Half Marathon and/or Toonie Challenge you will be contacted directly by race organizers with next steps.

We deeply regret any inconvenience this may have caused. Our commitment is to work hard over the coming year to put together an incredible running festival next year to give Vancouver the magical backdrop it deserves and grant runners and the community a special and memorable race weekend.

COURSE

James Cunningham Seawall Race

The Cunningham is the oldest consistently run race in the city of Vancouver. Runners will start on the south side of the Stanley Park Seawall and make their way clockwise around the park as they have done for 46 previous years, with the race finishing on the north side of the Stanley Park Seawall at Devonian Park in Coal Harbour. The event is named in honour of James Cunningham, a master stonemason who directed work on the Seawall project for 32 years. While he did not live to see its completion in 1971, Lions Gate Road Runners named their iconic race to recognize his life’s work. The Vancouver Running Festival is proud to partner and collaborate with this local club, and have runners continue to experience and contribute to the ongoing legacy of this race.
